Kenton- Royal family should have a protocol on what can and cannot be disclosed to the public

Gavin Mackintosh-

June Kenton’s daughter, Jill Kenton believes the Royal family should have a protocol on what can and cannot be disclosed to the public by those who come into contact with them.

Jill Kenton said she and her family were proud of the gentle memoir written by her mother for her children and grandchildren. Kenton said there was no intention to upset the Royal family , but rather to reflect them as normal human beings who were part of her mother’s great journey. Her mother’s book was stripped of its Royal warrant by the Royal family , given their objections to detailed references to events that occurred at Buckingham Palace.

Kenton says her family have been put through a rough time since the media storm that accompanied the withdrawal of the Royal warranty. ”My mother is 82, she struggled for us and sacrificed a lot to send us to private schools. She has had the Royal Warrant for 57 years, enjoyed her service to the Royal family, and was saddened by the reaction and withdrawal of the Royal Warranty We will just have to move on , and get on with it.

When pressed about reference in the book to the Queen being fitted in the presence of her corgies, she responded

” the fact there were dogs there just show them to be normal human beings who have dogs like many other people. Reference to the Royal family only take sup three or four pages in a book full of my mother’s life experiences”.

The sparse reference to the Royal family Kenton’s book demystifies the Queen and the Royal family in a way that animates aspects of their daily engagements. It depicts the innate tendencies of human beings to social engage with one another, alluding to present and past events as part of their moment of social gratification.

Whilst reflecting the air of ease and comfort they had with June Kenton during her time at the palace, it also questions whether their presumption that all that transpires at the Palace during a visit is meant to be held confidential. Many will intuitively expect the Kenton’s to have imagined the fall out that has now materialized, but Jill Kenton says they gave Buckingham Palace the book to read before it was eventually published?

Why didn’t Buckingham Palace raise their objections then? The eye of media.com was unable to establish how much time had lapsed between the time the book was in the possession of the Palace and when it was published. ”I can’t comment on the precise details of when they received a copy of the book, but they would have had enough time to get back to us and voice any objections. We would have expected somebody to come back

Jill, who manages her mother’s affairs told the eye of media.com that although she can see some of the reasons the Royal family may have been upset with aspects of her mother’s book that included her experiences with the Royal family, she believes the Palace may have overreacted to the contents in the book.

Kenton’s books recounts various episodes of her time at Buckingham Palace, recalling among others, an occasion in which the Queen mother told her she sometimes pretended to be listening to Prince Margaret’s advice, only to take her own decision in the end.

Kenton acknowledged that even in the scenario conveyed, the Queen mother may well have been speaking fondly of her daughter in a way that was harmless. Many would have misconstrued the report to reflect negatively on the Queen mother, but Kenton says she saw it as a harmless reflection of the Royal family as normal human beings.
