Young Mum Killed In Car Crash After Driver Fled Police Chase

A young mother tragically killed in a horror crash in Baildon has been named as 18 year old Amber Deakin.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Baildon Road, close to its junction with Pasture Road, late last night, where the young woman died.

Jessica Shaw wrote: “RIP Amber, love you loads girl.”

Simone Hands added: “Horrible start to the New Year, her poor little boy without a mummy.”Tara Hebson said: “Fly high gorgeous girl.”

“Heartbreaking, RIP Amber. Such a young life taken,” added Wendy O’Shea.

In a statement issued this afternoon, a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Police can confirm that a woman has died following a serious collision last night in Baildon.

“An 18-year-old woman who was a passenger in the vehicle died after the silver Vauxhall Vectra she was in overturned on Baildon Road near Pasture Road at around 11.47pm last night (Tuesday, January 3)

“Five people have been treated for injuries sustained in the collision.

“A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

“A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody

“The road is currently closed whilst investigation work takes place.

“The vehicle involved failed to stop for police and was being pursued by police at the time of the collision. A referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) who have declared an independent investigation.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicle prior to the collision or anyone who may have dash cam footage is asked to contact police via 101 or use the Live Chat facility at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/contactus quoting log 1802 of January 3.”

An IOPC spokesperson added: “We are investigating the circumstances surrounding a serious collision in the Bradford area last night when a vehicle overturned in Baildon Road shortly before 11.50pm.

“We have been advised by West Yorkshire Police that shortly before the collision a pursuit was authorised after a car failed to stop for police.

“We understand that a number of people were taken to hospital after the incident.
“We sent investigators to the scene and to the police post-incident procedures to begin gathering evidence.

“An independent investigation was declared by us at around 1.30am today. Our investigation is in its very early stages and no further detail is available at this time.”

West Yorkshire Police has not stated the reason police wanted to stop the car, but all drivers are expected to stop when chased by police.

West Yorkshire Police have arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

A 26 year old man has also been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.
