Why Lennox Lewis Is Backing Tyson Fury To Eventually Beat Joshua

By Tim Parsons-

Former undisputed heavyweight champion, Lennox Lewis, is backing Tyson Fury to eventually beat Anthony Joshua and become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

There are a number of reasons Lewis is picking Fury to beat Joshua.  First, Lewis has in the past highlighted weaknesses he sees in Joshua’s armoury, which he believes Fury can exploit.

Lewis’s criticism of Joshua has not gone down well with the present undisputed heavyweight champion, but the former heavyweight legend believes Fury’s size and style will prove too much for Joshua to overcome.

Fury and Joshua are expected to eventually meet next year to put their world title belts on the line, though former WBC heavyweight champion, Deontey Wilder, is in negotiations for a trilogy with the gypsy king, after the American big puncher was stopped in 7 rounds last February.

Their original rematch was scheduled for July 2020 before being rescheduled for December. Both dates fell through due to the pandemic, and Wilder is pushing for another opportunity to get his title back.

The boxing world has generally lost interest in a Fury -Wilder clash, and already believe Fury is the better man who will win again if the pair meet for the third time. Boxing fans are now eager to see Fury and Joshua get it on in an all British clash, and Lennox Lewis gave his view about the future clash today. Lewis was talking in an exclusive interview with the Gary Newbon Sports Show with Utilita on Punching.TV

Lennox said:

”You’ve got Fury, he is a switch hitter and he is going into the fight with a lot more dangerous things to watch out for – the fact that he can punch with left hand, with his right.

‘He is a slugger as well, the way he went after Deontay (Wilder), nobody expected that. He said what he is going to do and he did it. I like guys who box with confidence like that.’

Lewis says he believes that Fury’s height compared to Joshua, who at 6ft 6in has a three-inch disadvantage, will make his life a lot easier. ‘I have always said that it is always difficult boxing taller guys,’ Lewis explained.

Anthony Joshua first has to get past Polish Kubrat Pulev on December 12, a man who has lost just once to Wladimir Klitschko, and whose team are confident of an upset.
