University Lecturer Accuses British Press Of Operating Racist Editorial Policy Against Harry And Meghan

By Ashley Young-

A university lecturer from Kent University has accused the British press of operating a racist editorial policy in their coverage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Dr Admore Tshuma,(pictured) a lecturer of social policy, formerly a correspondent for The Sun and Daily Mail, after writing for the Sunday Times in for six years between 2002 and 2008, launched a scathing attack on the British press for its handling of the royal dispute between the Sussex’s and the rest of the royal family.

Tshuma insists the British media has become preoccupied with demonizing Meghan Markle at all costs, frequently featuring the opinion of commentators about Meghan without considering or examining the potential influence of racism by those commenting, and examining the full impact and legitimacy of the points being made.

”Media editors would not like to consider themselves racist , neither would they contemplate the possibility that some of those commenting on in their publication, simply would never have wanted to see a mixed race woman in the royal family. However, once the possibility of racism in a given situation is probable, but ignored, those ignoring this possibility reflect what is known as cognitive dissonance, in which some editors are confronted with the inconsistent reality that some of their contributors might be racist, while they outwardly would not want to identify with any racists themselves, and not consider themselves racist. But they are aware it is there.

One way to validate this position is through the  observable fact the media have rarely ever condemned overt racism by internet trolls, but merely report it as news. It does little to show they are against racism in principle. We have also seen examples of racism among the British media, so it is high time to be blunt and call the conduct what it is by its name. Its called racism.

It is impossible to tell me there are not members of the media who would have behaved completly differently with a white woman who had behaved exactly the way Meghan has. There are definitely people in the press who were upset the moment they new Prince Harry was planning to marry a mixed race woman”.

Dr Tshuma’s  attack comes after a  number of articles in which commentators have suggested Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s marriage is aborted to saved the ongoing feud in the royal family.

Last week, one royal expert was quoted calling for Prince Harry to divorce Meghan Markle if he wants to heal the rift between himself and his brother Prince William, then today another royal expert suggested the marriage of the couple could suffer unless Prince Harry mends the rift between himself and the royal family.

” You now have people trying to destroy their marriage instead of seeking a methodical approach to addressing their issues. Very rarely do you read valid criticisms against Meghan Markle’s conduct, what we normally see is the expression of personal points of views from so-called royal experts, Dr Tshuma said.

It is quite telling that many people blame Meghan for the break down in relationship between she and her wife and the family, when it has been shown that Prince Harry was never really comfortable in the royal family and wanted to leave even before Meghan came on the scene, but didn’t know how to. The moment she came on the scene, all of suddenly she is involved in arguments here and there in the family, and she is assumed to be at fault without much factual details of what occurred.

The few direct criticisms about Meghan Markle’s conduct has been in relation to her self promotion, her treatment of maids at the palace or her staff. Those are direct complaints that can be effectively addressed, otherwise her main offence has been to expose her feeling of ill treatment that made her suicidal, instead of just keeping quiet. Editors who take that position should not be trusted”.

An avid researcher, Tshuma  who worked with Professor  Peter Townshead for a year at the London School Of Economics(LSE) is an academic scholar from Zimbabwe who has written extensively about president Mugabe’s regime, and keeps updated with topical journalistic news in the Uk. A regular prize winner under Zimbabwe’s then sophisticated and rigorous academic regime, Tshuma is one of those bright minds consulted by this publication on matters relating to education research and some journalistic topics.

”I have watched and seen the very biased way in which many of these media outlets have giving platforms for commentators to air purely subjective views with not much backbone to their points. They seem to be there promoting themselves. Take Sarah Vine for example, the wife of a cabinet minister, often expressing one sided views against the couple. This would normally be a constitutional crisis because of who her husband is in government, but she has used her position and influence to support the Due and and Duchess Of Sussex, and criticize Prince Harry and Meghan. The lecturer’s views has been counter balanced by the editorial view of this publication that financial incentives and personal loyalties could account for the regular critical coverage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the press, but Dr Tshuma says evidence of racism in the British media proves it is a factor not to be ignored.

Last month, Daily Telegraph journalist, Julie Burchill, was sacked after tweeting that Prince Harry and Meghan Marle should have named their daughter Georgina Floydina, in reference to George Floyd-the black American murdered by Derek Chauvin who kept his knees on Floyd’s neck for almost 9 mins. Chauvin was eventually sentenced to 22 years.

In 2020, Danny Baker was sacked by  the BBC, after he posted a racial caricature of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son, Archie, suggesting he was a money, and in 2014, Jeremy Clarkson was rebuked after using the N word when reciting a children’s nursery rhyme. Clarkson apologized, and remains a successful figure on British televison.

However, the fact she is a mixed race woman continues to feature  in black communities as a strong behind the scene reasons for any main issues she has been sidelined as the problem.

Opinions offered in ITv’s latest documentary, The Battle Of The Brothers suggests Meghan Markle’s behaviour was upsetting a lot of people in the royal household, but those claims are without specific details.

Opinions have been split when professionals and members of the public surveyed by the Eye Of Media,Com have been asked about their views.

Reckless

Former television presenter, Piers Morgan, lost his 6 year job at Good Morning Britain, after recklessly pouring water on Meghan Markle’s claims to have suffered mental health issues that pushed her to the brink of suicide.

After refusing to apologize for his bad judgement, he was forced to step down from his job, though continued writing for The Daily Mail . Morgan has since mounted a sustained attack against Meghan Markle through the press and social media, in many cases, appealing to the views of ordinary brits who relate to some of his criticisms.

Piers is loved and hated to various degrees by the British public , but was brought down by a woman whose presence in Prince Harry’s life continues to stir emotion from different groups. The television presenter has already said his issue with Meghan Markle has nothing to do with race, but to do with her behaviour, alleged hypocrisy, and the fact she has cut her father away from her after ghosting the presenter himself. Other commentators have focused their attention on her as the problem causing the royal war at the moment, without addressing the issues in detail that led to the problem.

Meghan Markle complained  she was treated badly during her time at the palace, and that members of the firm were deliberately spreading falsehoods about her. She also revealed that her husband her relayed to her concerns expressed about how dark the colour of their baby would be, and that she and her family would be denied security, and that her son, Archie, was to be denied the title of a prince.

The revelations sent shock waves around the world at the time in March, its after effects continuing since then in the press, and with Prince Harry making further heavy statements in a podcast interview in the U.S after the initial bombshell in the Oprah Interview.

The allegation about denying Meghan Markle’s  son the title of a prince has since been proven to be mistaken, and critics have gone out of their way to discredit some of the other claims she made. The issue about how dark the colour of her child would be sparked controversy and fury in the Uk, with many seeing that as point blank racism, and others concluding the context in which the comment was said to be important.
