Twitter To Launch New Appeal Process Via Its Inside App

By Aaron Miller-

Twitter is launching a new appeals feature in its app. that facilitates appeal decisions about unacceptable behaviour on its platform.

The company is in the process of  launching a new appeals process inside its app to enable people to ask the company to reconsider its decisions after a report has been made. Twitter has had an appeals process in place in the past, but it wasn’t accessible in its app and response time could be slow.

In a marked move from its previous requirement for complainants to locate its online form to start an appeal, the new appeal process  creates a more effective mechanism for users to appeal from within the Twitter app itself the tweet in violation.

Twitter claims it can now get back to people 60 percent faster as a result. Several complaints have been made about twitter abuses by high profile figures about the incompetence of the giant social media in responding to complaints about abuse on its platform. The Eye Of Media.Com also complained to twitter in 2018 about some abuse on its platform, but the social media giant only responded via an automated message. Several more complaints were made to its board of governors through direct tweets, but no response was ever received.

“We move quickly to enforce our rules, but sometimes we don’t have the full context and can make mistakes,” the company tweeted. “To fix that, we added a way for people to appeal our decision in the app and have been able to get back to people 60% faster than before.

The app enables users to appeal decisions on occasions when Twitter hasn’t taken an action, a company spokesperson said. So if a user reported a tweet, and Twitter says it doesn’t break its rules, they can appeal to explain why they believe it does.

Twitter has  suffered criticism for its many failings that include inadequate explanation for its actions, sluggishness to identify and ban abusive users on its platform, including extremists, and   allegations  that the company “shadow bans” conservatives and other individuals they disapprove. The company has been progressing in terms of innovation on its platform, particularly expelling hoax accounts that exist for the purposes of political gain and propaganda aimed at illegally influencing elections.
