Trump’s North Korea Suicide Call

Trump’s North Korea Suicide Call

By Aaron Miller-

US President Donald Trump has told North Korea that they are on a suicide mission, after the continuous testing of nuclear bombs in defiance of UN resolutions.

Trump  was making his debut speech at the United Nations General Assembly when he said ”the United States had great  strength and patience, but that if it was forced to defend itself or its allies it will have no choice but to destroy North Korea.  The United States President  mocked North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-un, by saying he was on a suicide mission. Using the condescending phrase,’ rocket man’ Trump fuelled the flames in his ultimate statement that King Jung Un was on a suicide mission. He said   “Rocket man is on a suicide mission.”

Trump admitted there was no easy way out, no easy answer, but that ”the international community needs to find something in between doing nothing or using military force”.

President Trump’s words will be interpreted to mean that the steps being taken by North Korea would ultimately lead to his demise, if the word suicide is taking literally and evaluated in the context of what is possible from what we see so far. The tension between the U.S and North Korea is getting higher by the day, neither side is willing to call a compromise and reverse this dangerously evolving feud that can only contribute to destabilising the world further.

CORRUPT

Trump also attacked Iran, saying it was a “corrupt dictatorship”  intent on destabilising the Middle East. The American president said Tehran should stop supporting terrorism, in a direct allegation that Iran was indeed supporting terrorism. Trump then hinted that America may pull out of the Iran Nuclear deal since it was ”a cover for the construction of nuclear weapons”. He said we cannot allow a murderer’s regime continue this destabilising activities whilst building dangerous missiles and we cannot abide by an agreement if it provides cover for the eventual construction of a nuclear programme”.

President Trump has always been direct with his words,  always making clear where he stands on a matter. The real concern is how far Trump’s words about North Korea being on a suicide mission go, whether he has just quietly told the world that he is planning to begin a war with North Korea because of the latter’s obstinate intention to develop nuclear weapons. Calmer and less toxic words are expected from the White House, despite the fact North Korea’s continued development of nuclear weapons poses a great threat to the world and to America.

When the North Korean president is told that he is on a suicide mission, we have to imagine how he will process those words in his head and how desperate he could become in continuing his nuclear programme development. Kim Jung Un’s continuous actions will certainly lead to the inevitable at some point, unless the world allows him the benefit of the doubt that he just wants to have nuclear weapons to protect his country and have his own deterrence. America and the U.K won’t have that. They feel the history between them is too much to risk allowing him fully develop nuclear weapons , some of which they already have now anyway. A different approach and strategy is the best way forward. America  and North Korea may be too far in the dispute to go on a reverse gear, but the heavy sanctions heaped on North Korea can give us a reason to sit back and analyse this entire situation.
