An inquest into the death of a man who fell from a hot air balloon in West Sussex has concluded that the fall was intentional a suicide. The findings have brought a tragic end to weeks of speculation about what had initially appeared to be a freak accident during a commercial balloon flight.
The victim, identified as 33-year-old Jesus lato Garzon from Watford, had taken out a ticket on a passenger flight operated by Virgin Balloon Flights. Around 09:20 local time, while flying over the area of Newpound Common near Wisborough Green, the man unexpectedly climbed out of the basket and plunged to the ground.

At West Sussex Coroner’s Court in Horsham, Assistant Coroner Sally Morgan delivered the verdict: the man had the intention to end his own life. A note discovered alongside his body and his identification was cited as evidence supporting that conclusion.
