Several thousands of protesters have taken to the streets of Fort Lauderdale to protest strongly against gun laws in the wake of the school shooting in which 17 people were killed.
Students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas school attended the protest, as angry crowds demanding changes in gun laws that have for decades led to the shedding of so much innocent blood.
One of the students, Emma Gonzalez, criticised politicians who take campaign contributions from the National Rifle Association. The young girl rebuked such politicians who have failed to take a stand against gun laws that have proved to be the scourge of American society.
After Gonzalez slammed politicians who accept contributions from the NRA, saying they should be ashamed, the crowd began loudly chanting, “Shame on you! Shame on you!”
The young student told the crowd that she and her classmates in AP classes at the high school often debated gun control. In fact, she added that they were discussing it even as the shooting broke out Wednesday.
But she like other students who spoke at the rally said the time for talk is over and now elected officials must take action or the public will.“If all our government and president can do is send thoughts and prayers then it’s time for victims to be the change we need to be,” Gonzalez said.

It is high time politicians begin to consider the views of ordinary Americans, many of whom have lost close ones to depraved psychopaths like Cruz. Cruz is a demented looser that should have been caged long ago. American teenagers and adults love to live a fun life and strive for the American dream.
Crazy beats like Cruz should be identified before they ever have an opportunity to execute heartless mass murders of this type. Human beings who go into schools on a killing spree are animals who don’t deserve to live with decent citizens without close monitoring. America needs a change on gun laws, some sharp moral politician needs to push for this much needed change.
Public records with friends and family have revealed crazy Nikolas Cruz to have been an unstable and violent man to himself and those around him . It is a tragedy that when notified about his threatening behaviour, law enforcement did little to stop it.
Cruz had been diagnosed with autism, a neurological disorder that often leads to social awkwardness and isolation, and attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder.
Florida’s child welfare agency had investigated the maniac after he cut himself in an online video , state records reveal.
The Sun-Sentinel reported that Florida’s Department of Children and Families (DCF) investigated when Cruz posted a video on the social media network Snapchat showing him cutting his arms in 2016.
The agency was called to investigate. Cruz- then 18 years of age- when he was listed as an “alleged victim” of medical neglect and inadequate supervision. His adoptive mother, then-68-year-old Lynda Cruz, was named as the “alleged perpetrator”.
“Mr Cruz was on Snapchat cutting both of his arms,” the Florida DCF abuse hotline was told in August 2016, the paper reported. “Mr Cruz has fresh cuts on both his arms. Mr Cruz stated he plans to go out and buy a gun. It is unknown what he is buying the gun for.”
According to the paper, the DCF’s investigation was completed that November. The agency concluded that Cruz had not been mistreated by his mother, was receiving adequate care from a mental health counsellor and was attending school.
Mental health centre staff “came out and assessed the (victim and) found him to be stable enough not to be hospitalised,” the DCF report said.
