A boy from south Woodford has been nominated for an award after raising more than £1,000 for his great grandmother’s care home.
Alfie Thorn-Brown, six, raised £1,024 which went towards buying a new sensory board for dementia patients at Chadwell House care home in Romford.
He did a sponsored ten laps of Christchurch Green, Wanstead, in April 2022, just two weeks after he learned to ride a bike.
Alfie’s mother, Louisa Brown, described the sensory board as a “giant ipad” that encourages sensory stimulation and so is helpful for people with dementia.
Pamela Brown, Alfie’s great grandmother, has dementia and was a resident at Chadwell House until she recently moved to a nursing home.
Alfie also collected 50 Easter eggs from his family and friends, and added to the collection himself, in order that each care

Louisa said: “I think it’s such a good thing at that age to understand to care and love for people.
“I think that he’s a very caring little boy but he enjoyed doing it at the same time.
“I’m actually amazed and impressed how he took it on so willingly and with enthusiasm so I’m proud of him.
“He loved watching when someone sponsored him and he got really enthusiastic about it.
Alfie said: “It was hard but I still did it and I got a trophy.
“We used my other nanny’s scarf for the finish line… it made me feel good [to raise money].”
