Scandalous: Convicted Ex Police Officer Escapes Jail With Probation Order After Possessing Almost 2,000 Indecent Children Images

By Tony O’Reilly-

A former senior police officer has been handed a probation order for possessing almost 2,000 indecent images of children.

Judge Sherrard felt imprisonment was merited, but shockingly said: “To return you to that environment may do more harm than good”. He instead gave him an imposed 18-month probation order.

Sex offender, Raymond Keith Lindsay,64, (pictured) from Killyman Road, Dungannon, denied 15 counts of making indecent images of children and five of possessing prohibited images, but suddenly changed his plea a week before his trial was to begin.

The published picture here of the demented ex cop was taken in 1994 when he was jailed for 16 sex offences.

Cops declined to release an up-to-date picture of the paedophile because he was not jailed on this occassion.

Dungannon Crown Court heard that the search to Lindsay’s home was sparked by an unrelated matter and a laptop was seized.

When this device was forensically examined, cops were horrified to find 1,936 images were discovered, of which 107 were Category A (the most serious), 196 were Category B and 1,627 were Category C.

Lindsay was arrested and, during interview, he made “several self-serving statements”, which he later abandoned.

The shamed ex-RUC Inspector has been committing child sex offences since the early 90’s – targeting kids as young as eight-years-old to abuse.

In 2018, he tried to lure an eight-year-old girl into a forest for sex – can’t seem to stop himself from committing serious sex crimes.

His sexually depraved conduct began when he was a staff officer to the Deputy Chief Constable of the RUC in the early 90’s during which he abused his position at RUC Headquarters in east Belfast by stopping schoolgirls, asking them if they needed assistance, before proceeding before abusing them.

His lifelong Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which prohibits Lindsay from entering amusement arcades and beaches, and from loitering in forest parks and caravan sites, was put in place in 2012 after the pervert was spotted hanging around Tollymore Park in Newcastle and Kilbroney Park in Rostrevor

Six years later, he tried to have sex with a child in Castlewellan Forest Park.

Under three years ago he was jailed for trying to lure a child into woods at Castlewellan Forest Park on 26 July 2018. The victim, who was on a camping holiday with her family, was walking with her four-year-old sibling and became aware Lindsay was following them.

Although unknown to her, he engaged in conversion asking her age.

On replying she was 8 he said, “You’re too young.”

Lindsay then enquired if a priest came to her school but she didn’t reply.

He then asked the girl if she would like to take off her underwear.

She refused and he persisted in asking if she wanted to come into the woods and he would take off his underwear and show her his genitals.

The child hurried her sibling and away, reporting what occurred to her mother, who raised the alarm while pervert Lindsay cycled into the woods.

The Park Ranger was also alerted who discovered a white van on the site. This was registered to Lindsay who was arrested at his home that night but claimed “Not to have left the house all day.”

He then said he had taken his mother to Banbridge for lunch, but she denied being with him at all.

When this was put to Lindsay he contended his mother had “memory problems” thereafter providing no comment.

A defence barrister said his client has been very stressed by the proceedings, but added: “I don’t take away from the fact he is responsible for his own misfortune.”

Seriousness

Judge Brian Sherrard told Lindsay: “The seriousness of these matters will be apparent, as you have offended in this manner before. By viewing these images you helped to create demand.

“These children are exploited not just once, but every time they are sexually objectified by consumers of this material. You may not have been present for the creation of the images but you remain an abuser.”

The judge described Lindsay’s criminal record as “lamentable, after what was a promising start in life, with a successful and valuable career. Your aberrant sexual interests moved to very serious offending with young girls when you weren’t even aged 30… You are assessed as a high risk of reoffending and your persistence is concerning.”

The bigger question for the police force is how a man so evil and dangerous managed to join their force., and how many more undetectable misfits there are with far much less overt offences.
