Sarah Ferguson’s Stand Against Royal Online Abuse

By Charlotte Webster-

Sarah Ferguson has decided to take a stand against online abuse sparked by the horrifying online abuse launched against Meghan Markle.

In an open letter published in Hello! to support the magazines respectable #HelloToKindess campaign, The Dutchess Of York spoke dismissively about comparisons made between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton, by referring to comments which were made about her and Diana. Condemning internet trolls, she attacked those who have engaged in misogynistic  and racist attacks on social media, in a strong attempt to discredit the reports that have circulated the media about a rift between Meghan Markle and Katie Middleton.

Her decision to address this issue is an excellent example of the moral duty those in high positions have in taking a stand against such abuses. Her comments come as Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle released what is thought to ahve been a handwritten letter from his daughter urging him to stop feeding wrong information to the press.

Ferguson said:

“Women, in particular, are constantly pitted against and compared with each other in a way that reminds me of how people tried to portray Diana and me all the time as rivals, which is something neither of us ever really felt.”

“I believe that it’s time to take a stand. This isn’t about freedom of speech. The truth is, it’s not acceptable to post abuse or threats on social media or news sites, and it’s not acceptable to harangue other users simply because they disagree with you.

“It’s not acceptable to pit women against one another all the time.writes: “Take a look at any website, and you’ll see extraordinarily abusive comments aimed not only at people in the public eye but also other internet users. Bullying, sniping, bitching, even the most appalling sexism, racism and homophobia are commonplace – it seems that online, anything goes.

REVELATION

Ferguson’s letter follows  the revelation of a private letter to Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, which he leaked to the press over the weekend through a national newspaper. In the article, five of her closest confidants said the Duchess of Sussex has tolerated “lies and untruths” and “global bullying.” They also said Meghan wrote a letter to her father saying she was ‘heartbroken’ about their relationship, but he replied asking for a photo op. Ferguson said:
“Women, in particular, are constantly pitted against and compared with each other in a way that reminds me of how people tried to portray Diana and me all the time as rivals, which is something neither of us ever really felt.”

“Daddy, it is with a heavy heart that I write this, not understanding why you have chosen to take this path, turning a blind eye to the pain you are causing,” the 37-year-old wrote in a handwritten letter that’s over five pages for the 74-year-old dated August 2018.

“Your actions have broken my heart into a million pieces — not simply because you have manufactured such unnecessary and unwarranted pain, but by making the choice to not tell the truth as you are puppeteered in this. Something I will never understand.”

“If you love me, as you tell the press you do, please stop,” wrote Markle. “Please allow us to live our lives in peace. Please stop lying, please stop creating so much pain, please stop exploiting my relationship with my husband. I realize you are so far down this rabbit hole that you feel (or may not feel) there’s no way out, but if you take a moment to pause I think you’ll see that being able to live with a clear conscience is more valuable than any payment in the world.”

Meghan’s spiteful sister, Samantha Markle, has condemned the letter as spiteful, and threatened to release more private information to the press. Nothing in the letter’s content shows any spite, and Meghan’s family are only ruining their chances of ever reconciling with her daughter.
