Relatives of  a young woman killed in a car crash in Scumthorpe  have called for members of the public to be conscious of the importance of wearing a seat belt when in a car, after revealing that the beautiful and bubbly young man did not have one on when she was a passenger of a car that collided with a tree in June.

Shannon Hunt, 24, was killed whilst sitting in the passenger seat of an Audi convertable when the car hit a tree The tragedy happened on Burringham Road, Scunthorpe at 9.25pm on Friday. Emergency services attended but Shannon was tragically pronounced dead at the scene..

As her family  prepare to give tragic Shannon a princess funeral on Friday in Scumthorpe, mourning relatives of the beautiful young mum said she would likely still be with them if she had worn a seatbelt, when the Audi, in which she was a passenger crashed. They urged all motorists and passengers to ensure they and all children are safely in harnesses when motoring.

Earlier this month an inquest was opened in Cleethorpes in to the death of Asda worker, Shannon, 24, who died when the Audi collided with a tree. Shannon, a mum to a little boy, died at the scene around 9.30pm on June 17.

Humberside Police are still  investigating the collision, in which three others were seriously injured.

Police conducted blood samples of all the passengers in the car but have told the family it could take up to 3-6 months before they have any definite results- a process they find very frustrating.

The family whose lives have been torn in pieces following Shannon’s death have been dreading how Shannon’s surviving young child of  7 years of age will react when he realises his mother is gone forever.

A family spokesman released a statement, warning the public about the importance of wearing a seat belt. The statement read:  “In the midst our grieving moments, and as we prepare to lay Shannon to rest, we want to confirm that our beloved Shannon Hunt was not wearing a seat belt when she tragically died in a car crash in Scunthorpe last month,” they said.

They added: “She may still be with us had she had one on. In her memory, and as we prepare to give our beloved Shannon a princess funeral, we want to send a clear warning to the public to always wear seat belts when they are driving and for drivers to play their role in ensuring this at all times. It can be the difference between life and death in the most unpredictable of moments.

“Unfortunately, the fact Shannon had no seat belt on that fateful journey, has cost her her life. That day, when we received the awful news that Shannon had died in a car crash, is one that changed our lives forever. The joy of summer suddenly lost its meaning.
