A rapist gardener has been jailed 25 years after raping a teenager and assaulting two of her friends. William McMahon was sentenced to 18 years and 2 months for the attack on the teenage girls, ages 13 and 12 , at the time of the attack.
Snaresbrook crown court heard how the girls were targeted as they played at the Greenway near Upper Road in 1990. They were followed by rapist McMahon, as they went into a derelict building to look around. Mahon, 35 at the time, threatened them and forced them to remove their clothes, then raped one of the girls and sexually assaulted the other.
The incident caused deep distress to the girl and her family. Despite forensic evidence taken at the time, nobody was ever caught for the disturbing assault. Sadly, one of the girls died before anyone was brought to justice, whilst Mc Mahon’s life continued as normal, without any connection to the crime or major brushes with the law. The case had been reviewed as recently as last year April, and also in 2010, but the main breakthrough came when police caught the dirt pervert on an unrelated matter. He pleaded guilty to one count of rape, 3 counts of indecent assault, and 3 counts of imprisonment . For more than two decades, this weirdo, who must have been sexually hard up, thought he had away with his terrible crime.
Lawyers for the Crown prosecution told how he did everything to disguise his identity. McMahon told the young teenagers to face the wall and deliberately gave them false information about himself in an attempt to mislead police to his identity and whereabouts. But his hide and seek game has now come crashing on him at 60 years of age. Of no fixed abode, McMahon seems to have been as much a loser now as he was 25 years ago. A hard time in jail awaits him, and his capture is a lesson for all never to think an offense committed today undetected, will remain undetected forever.
