Former Queen of Pop, Janet Jackson will be back to our screens according to an announcement she made today.
The American singer who has sold over £140 million records and scored over 18 consecutive top hits, is another example of top music talent that has graced the United States of America. She is one of the most successful top 10 hits by a female artist, behind Elvis Presley and the Beatles. In 2008, she was ranked the 7th most successful artist by Billboard on their list of top 100 artists.
America is indeed a country where great dreams are born, given the wealth of talent that saturates this one country. Jackson, the sister of the late genius of a rare talent, Michael Jackson, was born into a family of talented musicians- her brothers forming the legendary and well known Jackson five in the 80’s. Once criticised for walking in the shadows of her successful brothers, she slowly seemed to be carving a career independent of the other famous and successive Jackson’s showing herself a woman of real worth and quality.
A pop icon in the early 80’s, Jackson was known for a series of sexually provocative records, and began breaking records after a record breaking multi million contract with Virgin Records, establishing her as one of the highest paid artist in the industry. The talented Jackson became a sex symbol, one clamoured after right across the globe. Performing many stage shows, the attractive singer performed on the Oprah Winfrey show, the today show and has played many film roles. She is a prominent figure in the music industry, whose return will bring an added joy to the music industry.
The death of her brother would most definitely have taken its toll on her, but the diva is now ready to satisfy our appetites for good music. We have no doubt, she was inspired by the recent Billboard Awards and feels eager to join the mix. She would be most welcome and will bring a glamour and added competitiveness to the current mix of talents in the industry.
Last year, she tweeted ”if there is a new project, you will hear it from my lips. Now, the 6 times Grammy Award winner announced to her 3 million followers ”this year, new music, new world tour, new movement, i’ve been watching, let’s keep the conversation going”. She even attached a 32 second video recording to her message. Wow! Good times ahead.
