Police Searching Hit And Run Killer In Hainult

By Sammie Jones-

Police are looking for a hit and run driver who killed a pedestrian ad sped off last Saturday.

The identity of the vehicle and its driver remains unknown but a 34-year-old man died after being in New North Road, Hainault on Saturday evening after being hit by the reckless driver.

It is unclear whether the hit was deliberate or merely reckless, but what is known is that the man ran away, knowing fully well that he had hit somebody badly. What the man doesn’t know is that his victim is dead, and that he faces at least manslaughter charges, and possibly murder charges. Murder charges will only be pursued if police believe the man hit the pedestrian deliberately, in which case cops will want to establish a motive to pursue that avenue. If police establish that the victim was known to the culprit, they will most definitely conduct a murder investigation.

Met Police officers investigating the case believe the car that struck the dead victim was a white vehicle with a black roof . They say the incident occurred at around 10.50pm. last Saturday.

The Metropolitan Police initially asked for information about the driver of a dark-coloured Audi A3, but now believe that was not the vehicle they are looking for. The incident is a grim reminder for pedestrians to always be very vigilant in their daily activities and consider the possibility of reckless drivers who may be drunk, on drugs, or a combination of the two. Law breaking drivers are not as few as a majority of law abiding citizens would love to believe, there are several who driver under the influence of illegal substances, or who are over the limit when they drive. Besides drunk and drink drivers, there are many sober drivers who speed recklessly as part of car racing. The worst category of drivers are those who car race under the influence.

As one can imagine, the killing would have devastated the family of the man, whom police are yet to formally identify and name.
Detective Sergeant Chris Osborne said: “Officers are currently studying CCTV from the area surrounding the collision and while I am confident that we will identify the vehicle, I encourage the driver to come forward to police as soon as possible.”
