Oxford University Union Sparks Protest Over Bannon Invite

By James Simons-

The Oxford Union debating society have sparked a protest by hosting white nationalist, Steve Bannon.

Students from Oxford University have today been protesting the invitation of Bannon to the University because of the widely held perception Bannon is a racist.

Bannon’s appearance comes just two weeks after Alice Weidel, a leading figure in the German far-right party Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), declined her invitation to appear at the Oxford Union amid protests from anti-racist campaigners.

Bannon was previously the former chief strategist in the Trump administration, and was formerly chairman of far-right propaganda and  editor  of online outlet Breitbart. He eventually fell out with president Trump and was kicked out of his administration. Bannon is a politically motivated individual with an agenda to every speech and appearance he makes. He once described violent thug and extremist Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, known  as ‘Tommy Robinson’ as ‘the backbone of this country’.

Bannon is also unconcerned with the allegation of being racist. He once told an audience of the French Front National to “let them call you racist…wear it as a badge of honour.”  The Oxford Union yesterday invited Porn looser, Stormy Daniels, who infamously slept with President Trump and took £130,000 ‘hush money’, but still revealed the affair publicly and wrote a book about her liaison with the Trump.

The Union have also invited  convicted fraudster Yaxley-Lennon to speak in 2014, and Marine Le Pen of the far-right Front National in 2015. In 2001, the Union also invited notorious anti semit, David Irving. despite strong objections expressed. They are treading a fine line of what is acceptable by today’s standards.

Bannon is  also despised for posed for a photograph with Matteo Salvini (captioned ‘He is in!’), the far-right Deputy Prime Minister of Italy. Recently, footage has re-emerged of Salvini, stating of the country’s Roma communities, “we need a mass cleansing, street by street, piazza by piazza, neighbourhood by neighbourhood”.

Oxford University authorities say that although the Oxford Union has members that are part of the University, the union is not a part of the University and has no control over its affairs.  It is self regulated. A spokesperson from Oxford University told The Eye Of Media.Com:

”The Oxford Union is an independent debating society. Although most of its members are current or former Oxford students, it is not part of the University. It has its own funding sources (including members’ fees) and its own premises. The University cannot speak on its behalf and does not have any control over its events”
