Oxford University Crowned As World’s Best For 5th Consecutive Year

 Oxford University has been crowned as the world’s best University  for the  fifth year in a row.

The World University Rankings compared data from 1,527 institutions from 93 countries and over 13.6 million research publications as part of its assessment.

The Times Higher Education world rankings placed Oxford  University as the world’s best, with Cambridge coming sixth, in a drop from third to sixth place, while Imperial College London dropped  from 10th to 11th place.

Oxford University is believed to be the oldest university in the English-speaking world and is made up of 39 semi-autonomous constituent colleges, six permanent private halls, and a range of academic departments which are organised into four divisions.

All the colleges are self-governing institutions within the university, each controlling its own membership and with its own internal structure and activities. The university has educated 28 prime ministers, and generally take in students  with straight A’s from both their A levels and G.C.S.E exams.

The London School Of Economics was ranked 27th globally and 5th in the UK, adding to its top ranking in Europe when it comes to social science and management subjects where the outstanding LSE was ranked second in the world for the eighth consecutive year in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2020.

Commenting on the news, LSE Director Minouche Shafik said, “These results are a tribute to the hard work being carried out by the LSE community, which includes significant efforts to address major global challenges, such as the coronavirus pandemic, climate change and financial inequality.”.

Minouche Shafik added, “To be recognised for the quality of our research and teaching is wonderful, and underscores our commitment to provide the world-class skills and knowledge required to make a positive impact on the world.”

A number of  other UK universities slipped down in the global rankings as experts warned coronavirus heralded a “perfect storm” of challenges for the nation’s higher education sector..
