Met Police Sent FOI About Baker Racist Tweet Investigation

By Gabriel Princewill-

The metropolitan police has been sent a Freedom Of Information request asking for full details of their investigation process of the Baker racist royal baby tweet in which they concluded it did not meet the criminal threshold.

The Freedom Of Information request has been sent by The Eye Of Media.Com, requesting details of the investigation process they conducted in relation to the the allegation made. It requests step by step details of the how the allegation of racism was investigated , how many people were involved  in the investigation, and  how Baker was questioned about his decision and motives in posting the racist tweet on the same day Meghan’s baby Archie was born, and what responses he gave police.

It also seeks to find out  what legal criteria was used in determining the outcome of the investigation, in terms of the criminal legal threshold,  and whether BBC Radio 5 bosses who fired Baker were interviewed as part of the investigation. The inquiry into how the police investigated the allegation against a Baker was first  discussed with  two social worker  of ethnic minority background,  a psychologist of European decent, three lawyers of European  descent, and two members of the Equality and Human Rights Commission. The initial consultation was to obtain a diversity of opinion before embarking on this investigation.

BBC Radio 5 has declined to reveal whether they were spoken to by police, but all will become clear within the 20 days limit accounting for how the investigation was conducted. The police  investigation into Baker’s racist tweet was reportedly  conducted by  a detective, whose identity has been requested as part of the request, but which could be declined under the DPA.

However, such refusal can be successfully challenged since the Data Protection Act is sometimes subject to interpretation and depends on the purpose for which the information requested is used. It may not even be relevant. Legal experts spoken to by this publication are convinced the investigation conducted by Scotland Yard  was a whitewash, influenced by support given to Baker on media platforms, and his standing ovation at the Palace Theatre.

EFFECTIVE

There is also the question of how effective the investigators were,  and any possibility of their inquiry being compromised by bias or ineptitude .The Metropolitan police expressed reluctance to  divulge the information requested to us. However,  they accepted they would be compelled to do so under The Freedom Of Information Act. Baker, a former BBC Radio DJ apologised for the racial tweet he sent, claiming he did not know it had racial connotations. Baker also said he did not know which of the Princesses had just had a baby. The BBC Radio 5 Live host sparked outrage after he uploaded this image of a couple clinging on to a monkey wearing a suit with the caption: 'Royal baby leaves hospital'

BBC Radio 5 DJ published picture of a couple clinging unto a monkey wearing a suit, with the caption ‘Royal Baby leaves Hospital’

One lawyer constituting the team consulted on this matter said: ”it runs against the grain of logic that Baker did not know the full implications of what he was doing. He may not have carefully considered the immediate ramifications of it, but he surely was cognisant of how his actions would be perceived. The burden of proof has to be on him to show that he was not, but a lot depends on how he was questioned. If he is allowed to escape a thorough investigation, it will set a very poor precedent for society in the future”.
