A Metropolitan Police Officer has pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and assault

PC Sam Grigg, 36, used duct tape to restrain Natasha Rabinowitz in a house in Twickenham, south-west London, on 2 December last year.

He was attached to the South West Basic Command Unit and was suspended from duty after being charged.

Kingston Crown Court heard Grigg and Ms Rabinowitz were known to each other.

The Met said Ms Rabinowitz, in her 20s, suffered minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

Grigg, of Hazel Close, Twickenham, who appeared via video-link from Wandsworth Prison, pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was off duty at the time of the offence.

Judge Georgina Kent ordered a pre-sentence report and adjourned the sentencing hearing to 10 February.

She said: “This is a serious offence. The ordering of the report is not an indication of the outcome.”

John Howey, defending, said: “Mr Grigg accepts that he tied up the complainant. He takes no issue with anything she says.”

The offence took place at a house in Twickenham on Friday, December 2, when Police Constable Sam Grigg was off-duty.

The MPS said the victim, a woman aged in her twenties, and the officer were known to each other. The woman suffered minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

The incident was reported to the force Tuesday, December 6, and PC Grigg was suspended from duty after being charged on the following Thursday following an investigation into allegations.

PC Grigg, 36, who is attached to the South West Basic Command Unit, appeared in custody at Kingston Crown Court on Thursday (January 5) where he pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and assault.

He was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing at the same court on Friday, February 10.

Commander Jon Savell, in charge of the MPS’s professional standards team, said: “PC Grigg’s behaviour was totally unacceptable and I know it will cause concern among members of the public.

“He’s let down the Met and his colleagues who are committed to keeping the people of London safe.

“We took immediate action to suspend PC Grigg from duty when his offending came to light and we will now look to commence misconduct proceedings at the earliest opportunity.

“We are determined to have a Met that the public can trust, with officers that people feel comfortable to approach. When someone fails to meet these standards, we will take action to remove them from our organisation.”
