Man Charged In Connection With Drive By Shooting Outside Church Memorial Service

A man has been charged in connection with a drive-by shooting outside a church during a memorial service.

Alrico Nelson Martin, from Kilburn, was arrested yesterday  and charged today with possession of a shotgun with intent to endanger life and six counts of conspiracy to wound with intent.

The 19-year-old is remanded in custody to appear at Willesden Magistrates’ Court today.Mourners attending a memorial service for a young woman and her mother came under fire outside St Aloysius Church in Phoenix Road, Euston, on January 14.

Four women aged 48, 54, 41, 21 and two girls, aged 11 and seven, were taken to hospital. Their injuries were not life-threatening.

The 48-year-old woman remains in hospital undergoing treatment.

The shots sent mourners running and screaming, with many sheltering inside the church, witnesses said.

The memorial service was a requiem Mass for Sara Sanchez, 20, and her mother, Fresia Calderon, 50, who died in November.

Ms Sanchez suffered from leukaemia for three years before succumbing to the disease after her mother died suddenly from a rare blood clot on arrival at Heathrow from Colombia, MyLondon reported.

A man, 22, was arrested on January 15 on suspicion of attempted murder. He was released on bail to return on a date in April pending further enquiries.
