A legal suit against Meghan Markle by her sister claims she lied about being an only child. The suit follows a claim by Meghan Markle in her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey that she grew up an only child amid a legal battle with her half-sister Samantha.
Meghan is being sued by her half sister, Samantha Markle for allegedly lying about her upbringing in the explosive chat, in the process defaming her by telling untruths about her and her family.
The legal suit continues to highlight the deepening rift between Meghan Markle and her family and puts the Duchess Of Sussex up for more scrutiny by the public and the media.
Samantha has accused Meghan Markle of fabricating details of her background to the Royal Family, the media and during TV interviews. She claims her half-sibling launched a “premeditated campaign to destroy” her and her father’s reputation.
In new papers filed to a court in Florida, Meghan’s lawyers argued that her statement about growing up an only child was not meant to be “objective fact”, but rather a subjective statement of her own feelings.
They add that her description of growing up as an only child cannot be false because it is a “textbook example of a subjective statement of how a person feels about their childhood” and have moved to dismiss the case.
The papers state: “Plaintiff [Samantha] first asserts that she can disprove that Meghan “grew up as an only child”. But this perception is entirely unfalsifiable. It is hard to imagine a more personal and subjective feeling than how one views their own childhood.
“Moreover, Plaintiff’s opposition completely ignores the context of the statement where Ms Winfrey asked Meghan about her relationship with Plaintiff.
The suit will necessarily go into details of how Meghan Markle defame her half sibling , with the definition of defamation closely examined by the court.
Whether Meghan Markle grew up an only child will not be difficult to establish, and is a question of fact, different from whether or not she has siblings or half siblings. It is more likely a question of whether she grew up with siblings in her household as a child.
The suit which will almost certainly examine the validity of each statement Meghan Markle made during the televised interview will form another episode of royal drama , as what unfolds is spread round the world online to the many millions who have great interest in the royal family.
Meghan Markle’s critics point to the fact that she has falling out with all members of her own family as a sign that she is a troublesome family breaker whose inclusion in the royal family through Prince Harry was a terrible mistake.
Her supporters say her family members are simply jealous of her elevated status ever since she became Duchess Of Sussex and are desperate to destroy her name.
The details about Meghan’s relationship with her inner family have never fully been told , but it is well documented that the broken home from where which she comes split her family apart and has a lot hidden in it.
Ms Markle’s drama with the royal family, the press, and her natural family, in itself makes for a best seller.
At the heart of the tense bitter relationships is the question of which parties are really to blame for the anger and resentment which has becoming increasingly virulent as the months and years go on. Court cases sometimes help tell part of the story, providing facts from which conclusions can be drawn.
Other times, a lot more facts are needed to put the pieces together and determine hidden truth underlying a dispute.
Meghan Markle appears to be on a long trial with the British public and the world press. Most people either like her or don’t like her, either trust her or don’t trust her.
The defamation suit by her half sibling may tell us more about Meghan Markle and her family background, and confirm who is actually telling the truth. One definite truth is that meghan Markle and her half sibling are not very keen on each other, and no miracles are likely to occur anytime in the near future to change that.
