Kim Kardashian West has won $2.7m in damages after accusing Missguided USA of ripping off her outfits.

The reality star took the fashion brand to court in the U.S, claiming it was using her name to sell clothes and was “notorious” for “knocking off” designer items she wore. The company provided no defence , and was told to pay out $2.7m (about £2.1m).

The fashion brand was further banned from using the reality star’s “trademarks in connection with the sale, marketing or distribution of its products”.The star took to Twitter to air her frustrations, saying: “”It’s devastating to see these fashion companies rip off designs that have taken the blood, sweat and tears of true designers who have put their all into their own original ideas.

Kardashian is reputed  for wearing clothes by some of the highest profile designers in the world, including her husband Kanye West. Kardashian West, 38, slammed the so-called “fast fashion” brands who she said sell similar designs hours after she is pictured wearing them. Posting an old image on Twitter from a fitting, she said: “Fast fashion brands, can you please wait until I wear this in real life before you knock it off?”

The company, which was founded as an online women’s fashion business in 2009 by Nitin Passi, has also been banned from using Kim Kardashian-West’s “trademarks in connection with the sale, marketing or distribution of its products”. Within hours, Missguided responded with a copycat outfit for the one she wore, designed by her musician husband, Kanye West. Posting on Instagram, Missguided said: “The devil works hard but Missguided works harder.”

It tagged Kardashian West in the Instagram post which has now been removed.  Khadashian attacked the copycat designers days later on Twitter. Kardashian West wrote: “I’ve watched these companies profit off my husband’s work for years and now that it’s also affecting designers who have been so generous to give me access to their beautiful works, I can no longer sit silent.”
