Johnson: Public Must Self Isolate Like Me Once Instructed By Track And Trace

By Tony O’Riley-

Boris Johnson has told the British public that they must self isolate, once told to so by track and trace.

Individuals can be contacted by the track and trace team and instructed to self isolate if they are found to have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. Under self isolation rules, an individual is forbidden from being in contact with anybody else, and must not even go out to the shops to buy essential goods.

Arrangements surrounding the purchase of essential goods for those who don’t already have them to hand is expected to be discussed with representatives of the track and trace team or with trusted friends and families who could act on their behalf and leave those goods at the door step of those self isolating.

The PM and four other Tory MPs were told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace – after meeting an MP who later tested positive for Covid-19.

In a video on Monday, Mr Johnson urged others to “follow the rules” if contacted by the scheme. The prime minister had spent an estimated 35 minutes with Tory MP Lee Anderson, who lost his sense of taste the next day.

The four other Conservative MPs self-isolating following the meeting include South Ribble MP Katherine Fletcher, Warrington South MP Andy Carter, Great Grimsby MP Lia Nici and Bassetlaw MP Brendan Clarke-Smith.

Downing Street said a series of “critical announcements” would this week detail Mr Johnson’s “ambitions for the United Kingdom”.

Mr Johnson plans to work with Chancellor Rishi Sunak to devise the upcoming spending review with an aim to fulfil his promise to “build back better”. He is also expected to lead a press conference with Matt Hancock later today.
