Historic Impeachment Looms For Embattled U.S President Who Claims Innocence

By Aaron Miller-

President Donald Trump’s legacy is at stake with an impeachment hanging over his head as the house  undertake the  historic vote set to make him  only be the third president to ever be impeached, but a re-election in 2020 following an impeachment will make him  the most successful president ever.

As the house debates the issues, it is almost certain that President Donald Trump will be impeached today, as global news outlets wait to make headlines once it happens. It will only be news to those not aware that it is only a matter of process for the impeachment to be formalised, but Trump will remain in office. House speaker Nancy pelosi clearly announced that there was no choice but to impeach the president.

Trump was livid on twitter as he attacked what he called the lies of the Democrats. He wrote:

“SUCH ATROCIOUS LIES BY THE RADICAL LEFT, DO NOTHING DEMOCRATS. THIS IS AN ASSAULT ON AMERICA, AND AN ASSAULT ON THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!!!!” Trump wrote, shortly after the White House said in a statement that he was “working all day” but might “catch some of the proceedings between meetings.”

“Can you believe that I will be impeached today by the Radical Left, Do Nothing Democrats, AND I DID NOTHING WRONG! A terrible Thing. Read the Transcripts. This should never happen to another President again. Say a PRAYER!” Trump wrote in another, one of more than 30 tweets and retweets from his account by early afternoon on Wednesday.

“We are all mad,” a White House official told NBC News, describing the president’s reaction as one of “disbelief” that the process had reached this point, and his team as being “angry this is happening.” But officials were quick to add that the president is ready for the fight ahead, describing the White House as battle-tested at this point. He accused House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of a “coup” in an angry six page letter. a document officials said he was likely to draw from in appearances later in the day.

The inquiry revolves around  a call between Trump and Ukraine’s president in which Trump asks for a probe into Joe Biden, a 2020 U.S election candidate. Trump also wanted a conspiracy theory about the 2016 elections investigated.  Trump was at the time withholding $391m in military aid from Ukraine, and allegedly based a White House meeting on the probes he demanded. Wednesday’s historic votes on impeachment comes after a two-month inquiry by House Democrats, who accuse the president of pressuring Ukraine to open an investigation into the president’s political rival and former vice president, Joe Biden, who is also a front runner in the 2020 Democratic presidential race. They also charge that the president obstructed their investigation by refusing to comply with subpoenas and directing members of his administration to do the same.
