Goeorge Clooney Accuses Press Of Irresponsible Acts Over Meghan Letter Leak

By Eric King-

George Clooney has criticised media, describing coverage of Meghan’s letter to her father as ”irresponsible” treatment of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, saying she is being “pursued and vilified.”  He made comparisons of the level of media scrutiny she is receiving to that received by Harry’s late mother, Princess Diane.

His criticism came after the Daily Mail published a letter sent by Meghan to her father . And in a strained relationship that has been in the full glare of the public like a soap opera, The Uk Daily Telegraph revealed that Palace aids are considering taking legal action against Meghan’s father, because under Uk law she has the copyright to her letter.

Clooney, who is a friend of the British royal and her husband Prince Harry and attended their royal wedding with his wife Amal last May, went on the attack against the British press after the Mail on Sunday published a letter Meghan reportedly wrote to her estranged father, Thomas Markle.

The Press Association revealed his criticism during a panel discussion promoting his new Hulu show Catch-22 in Pasadena, California on Monday. Clooney, who is friends with Meghan and her husband Prince Harry, defended the Duchess after Britain’s Mail on Sunday newspaper published a personal letter allegedly sent by Meghan to her estranged father.
“They’re just chasing Meghan Markle everywhere, she’s been pursued and vilified,” Clooney said at a promotional event for his new film, according to the UK’s Press Association (PA) news agency. “I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to see that.”

“She’s a woman who is seven months pregnant and she is being pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was, and it’s history repeating itself. And we’ve seen how that ends,” Clooney said. Meghan has been the subject of virtually daily press coverage since her marriage to Prince Harry, with some coverage positive, and others highlighting the rift between her and family members.

“You’re taking a letter from a daughter to a father and broadcasting it everywhere,” he said, according to PA. “She’s getting a raw deal there, it’s irresponsible. I’m sort of surprised by that.”The letter was covered widely in the British press, although there was nothing in the letter that reflected badly on Meghan Markle In the letter, Meghan urged her father to stop contacting the press if she truly loved her as he claims.   with The Mirror newspaper consulting a handwriting expert to claim that the Duchess’s writing reveals her to be “emotionally insecure and self-pitying.”

It is difficult to tell whether nit was irresponsible of the press to have published the letter, because a letter like that would naturally attract public interest. It can be argued that because the letter was private, the press should not have published it, but once her father passed it unto the press, the right to freedom of expression immediately permits the press to publish the letter if they feel the public would like to know how Meghan is feeling about her father’s actions. Meghan’s father is the one really guilty of irresponsible behaviour , and it will make for an even bigger story if legal action were to be taken against him.

It will require a statement from Meghan stating how the publication of the letter added to her pains and could also lead to other members of her family continuing the media frenzy into her personal life. Kensington Palace will have to make the final decision whether the more intense publicity will be in Meghan’s interest when compared with the need to punish her father for his irresponsible and immature actions. It may be worth the hassle, or it may be better for the threat to just hang over his head.
