A former police officer is to appear in court for rape charges

Former PC Jade Ebanks was charged with five counts of rape last month and will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday

The offences are reported to have occurred between 2018 and 2020 in Ealing and Hillingdon and involved the same victim.

Ebanks joined the MPS in June 2021 and was attached to North West BCU before he resigned on Friday April 21 this year.

The MPS said he was arrested in May last year as part of an investigation by officers from the South West Public Protection Unit and suspended from duty.

More than 1,500 police officers have been accused of violent offences against women and girls over a period of six months, and less than 1% have been sacked, according to new figures.

Statistics reveal that  1 in 100 officers in England and Wales faced criminal charges, including for sexual offences, last year alone.

Overall, 1,483 unique allegations were reported against 1,539 police officers – or 0.7% of the workforce. There were 1,177 cases of alleged police-perpetrated violence, including sexual harassment and assault, reported between October 2021 and April 2022, according to data from the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC).
