Exclusive guided tours of Balmoral Castle, offering a rare glimpse into the private quarters of the royal family, have sold out within hours of tickets going on sale.
The announcement of these intimate tours, set to take place from July 1 to August 4, has sparked a frenzy of interest among history enthusiasts and royal aficionados alike.
Balmoral Castle, nestled in the serene landscapes of Aberdeenshire, has long been shrouded in mystique, with access limited to the ballroom and surrounding grounds for most visitors.
However, this summer promises a unique opportunity for lucky ticket holders to delve deeper into the historic and opulent interiors of the castle, dating back to its completion in 1855 under the patronage of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
With only 40 tickets available per day, priced at £100 for the tour and £150 for the tour coupled with an indulgent afternoon tea, anticipation for these coveted slots reached a fever pitch, resulting in a swift sell-out.
The guided tours, restricted to intimate groups of 10 people, promise participants “a historical journey through several of the beautiful rooms within Balmoral Castle,” offering a glimpse into the royal family’s rich heritage spanning from the Victorian era to the present day.
Described as “the much-loved and celebrated Highland home of the royal family,” Balmoral Castle holds a special place in British history and has served as a cherished retreat for generations of monarchs.
The announcement of these tours harks back to September 2022, when Queen Elizabeth II was photographed in the drawing room at Balmoral, awaiting the arrival of then Conservative leader Liz Truss. Just two days later, the nation mourned the passing of the beloved monarch, marking the end of an era.
