Emmerdale’s Mark Charnock speaks out after being ‘killed’ In well loved soap opera

By Sammy Jones-

Emmerdale legend Mark Charnock has broken his silence after being violently “killed off” from the programme last night (November 4).

In a special episode of the ITV soap opera, his character, Marlon Dingle, seemingly met a terrible fate in front of his daughter April (played by Amelia Flanagan).

In one scene, he is shot right in the chest after April confesses to murdering a man who was paying Celia and Ray to have sex with the teenager.

Before this, she was being dragged deeper and deeper into the criminal underworld.

However, in a massive twist that shocked fans, it turned out that this was all a figment of April’s imagination and was merely what she thought would happen if she did confess to her father.

Speaking about the special Emmerdale episode on This Morning this week, Mark Charnock told Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard that writers are looking for a different way to explore the narrative.

The ITV star said: “What happens tonight, the first two-thirds of it, they’ve not been communicating. Everything she’s going through, she’s protecting him by not telling him. She killed a man!”The whole thing is teetering on this knife-edge. If she tells him, it could change everything. I wish I could tell you. It’s a big twist. It’s part-thriller, wonderful coming back together and then the most astonishing shock.

“It’s been an amazing run of luck, I’ve loved every minute of it, but this one is so different. Emmerdale are doing this brilliant thing by playing with the form, telling the narrative in a different way.

“Obviously, I’m bias, but what’s coming up over the winter is astonishing, and I’m really proud of it”.

Over the decades, the star has surmounted multiple dramatic plots, from serving time behind bars to mourning his former partner Donna Windsor, including his enduring friendship with mate Paddy.

Known as Marlon Dingle, a role he has played since 1996.,Charnock and Emmerdale co-star Dominic Brunt, who plays Paddy Kirk, produce a yearly Zombie Film Festival in the Leeds Cottage Road Cinema. Learning that his daughter April  has become further embroiled in sex and drugs exploitation is his toughest challenge yet. Mark in real life is known to be a very sensitive caring soul.

In 2014, Mark honoured his on-screen child Harry Whittaker, who had portrayed toddler Leo Goskirk, after the youngster  sadly died at just three years old due to chronic lung disease, and was commemorated in a soap episode featuring a memorial plaque reading: “To Harry, with love” accompanied by the little star’s photograph.

Mark spearheaded the touching tributes, writing: “Our superhero. We were lucky to know you and hear your laugh. You lit up our lives dearest, loveliest Harry.”

Addressing supporters, he continued: “Thank you all. We’ll all pass on your overwhelming response to Harry’s amazing family. Thank you for all your kind words. It means a lot.

“Just want to say a massive and heartfelt thank you for your amazing response to last night’s episode. So lovely of you.”

Harry was the nephew of Jodie Whittaker, renowned for her role in Doctor Who.

Last year, Mark took to Twitter to share a heartfelt tribute on what would have been Harry’s tenth birthday, penning: “On what would have been his 10th birthday, thinking of this little Spider-Man today.

“Thinking of the joy he brought to everyone he encountered and of his giddy laughter. Thinking of our prince Harry with love and happy memories xxx.”
