EE will remove mobile data from its network for England’s Euro 2020 final on Sunday, meaning customers will be able to stream the game on their devices without using any mobile data or incurring extra costs.
The network operator will give free data to its customers between 6pm and midnight on Sunday – covering the whole of England’s match with Italy – including any potential extra time and penalties.
EE confirmed that any customers who have already used up their data allowance will be able to access data to stream the game and connect with friends at no additional charge.
Sunday’s final is the first time the England men’s football team have reached a major final in 55 years and is expected to be watched and followed by millions across the country.
The move will allow EE customers to operate via the internet during the match, send videos , and operate in the same way as a costumer who would normally have data. It is amongst a set of relaxations designed to raise the full enjoyment of the big game to close the Euro tournament which could see England win its first ffotball tournament since 1966.
Marc Allera, chief executive of BT’s consumer group, said the decision would ensure the network’s customers would be able to follow the match without having to worry about their data use.
“Millions of fans across the country will understandably be glued to the final – whether that’s at home, out and about, or at Wembley Stadium connected by EE – and with emotions running high, the last thing you need concern yourself with is data running out,” he said.
“On Sunday evening, customers can rest assured that when it counts, you can count on our award-winning network – to stream every kick, capture every moment and share every roar when the Three Lions bring it home.”
Following major football finals on the network has become increasingly popular, with EE revealing that May’s Champions League Final between Chelsea and Manchester City set a new record peak for mobile data usage on the firm’s network.
