Editor Of Waitrose Food’s Inappropriate Vegan Comments Are Sackable

By Lucy Caulkett-

The editor of Waitrose Food magazine made comments worthy of a sacking following his sinister remarks proposing killing vegans one by one and reducing them to

After freelance journalist Selene Nelson  emailed William Sitwell to propose a series of features on plant-based recipes, he didn’t respect the response he received . Sitwell responded him by asking:”How about a series on killing vegans, one by one?”He continued: “Ways to trap them?” How to interrogate them properly? Expose their hypocrisy? Force-feed them meat? Make them eat and drink red wine?”

Waitrose said he “has gone too far” The supermarket issued a statement after Sitwell’s comments to food writer Nelson were reported on BuzzFeed News.

“Even though this was a private email William’s gone too far and his words are extremely inappropriate, insensitive and absolutely do not represent our views,” the statement said. This was another case of absolute stupidity, potentially threatening his true credentials as the Editor of a Magazine. His judgement was terribly bad.

Sitwell has let himself down with his inappropriate behaviour. He had frequently appeared as a  regular guest of the contestants’ creations on TV cookery show Master chef. It now raises the question as to his suitability for his post. Vegans are human beings and such degrading comments are simply so appalling  He later issued his own apology, stating:

“I love and respect people of all appetites, be they vegan, vegetarian or meat eaters – which I show week in week out through my writing, editing and broadcasting.”I apologize profusely to anyone who has been offended or upset by this.”

Sitwell may have meant it all as banta  but it was stupid banta, even if so.
