Driver High On Drugs Jailed After Killing 17 year Old With Car

A driver high  on drugs has been jailed for 9 years after killing 17-year-old boy James Esah when he struck him in a stolen car.

His friend,  Tommy Wilson, was jailed for 6 years and 4 months.

Jack Madel, 28, was travelling in a stolen  Ford Kuga with Tommy Wilson, also 28, along Hartswood Road in the Warley area of Brentwood on September 18 last year.t The car had been stolen from outside Stock Brook Manor Country Club in His friend, Wilson, was jailed for 6 years and 4 months.

Madel, who had taken a controlled substance, went through a red light then dramatically hit a Mercedes that was travelling in the opposite direction as it was turning into St John’s Road.

An engineer working on roadworks at the time suffered minor leg injuries while two other people were narrowly missed.

Madel, of no fixed address, admitted causing death by dangerous driving at Basildon Crown Court last year, but denied possessing a class A drug with intent to supply – he was acquitted of the drug offence following a trial that ended today.

He had previously admitted possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

Inspector Mark Fraser from Essex Police said: “This was a horrifying incident and I speak on behalf of all my colleagues when I say that our heartfelt sympathies are with James’s family, who have suffered such an unimaginable loss.

“I’d like to thank members of the public for trying to help James, and for their assistance in ensuring Madel didn’t leave the scene.

“What they witnessed that day must have been horrendous.
