Dr Hilary Jones Illogically Compares Controlling Virus To Controlling Weight

By Charlotte Webster-

Dr Hilary Jones has  illogically compared controlling your weight to controlling the virus , in an attack against  the “weak nation” for having a five-day break during Christmas amid the coronavirus pandemic.

His comments were presented as a warning on Good Morning Britain after Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid interviewed the First Minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford MS,  encouraging caution  in the Uk amid the new Covid-19 restrictions.

However, Dr Hilary’s comments missed out the obvious fact that members of the public who choose to control their weight do so because they benefit directly from that decision and are happy to do so.

Continuing under lockdown during Christmas does not directly benefit all those making the sacrifice, and the British public have a right to enjoy Christmas, having already made so much sacrifice during lockdown. The expectation for the public to sacrifice Christmas in addition to all the sacrifices of job losses is unreasonable.

“It’s easy to put weight on, it’s very difficult to lose it,” Dr Hilary said. “It’s very easy for the transmission of the virus to increase, it’s very slow to get those numbers down again.

By having this five-day holiday at Christmas and three households – which could be a large number of people gathering in a place with very little ventilation or hugging each other – it’s going to undo so much of the good work that have been done.

“I think the majority of our viewers are together with this – they’re saying, ‘Let’s not sacrifice the good work’.”

He went on to point out some headlines, which referenced bubbles being part of a ‘UK deal’ for families.

“We’re talking about a deal – it’s not a deal!” Dr Hilary raged. “Are we such a weak nation that we can’t wait a few more weeks so that we can actually control this virus.

“We’ve still got very high numbers. Wait for the vaccine and get on with our lives next year.”

Dr Hilary obviously does not seem to appreciate the balance between making sacrifices for other people and the right to get on with one’s own life.

His rebuke fails to take into account the fact that many of the British public are unconvinced that the lockdown effectively addresses the control of the virus, especially after a recent report by the Daily Mail revealed that 95% of coronavirus patients in hospital suffer from other serious illnesses, and many of the Nightingale hospitals are close to empty, despite contrary claims.

Ongoing research by The Eye Of Media.Com shows growing numbers of the British public do not trust the basis of the second lockdown, especially after Theresa May revealed that the statistics used by government scientists to secure the lockdown was exaggerated.

The decision by the British government to allow the mixing of bubbles for Christmas has been welcomed by a large section of the British public, although there have been indications that this could be accompanied with tougher restrictions in January.
