Divisive Trump Expected To Announce Controversial 2024 Presidential Run

By Isabelle Wilson-

Donald Trump is expected to announce his 2024 presidential run tonight, former vice president Mike Pence has said that the US will have “better choices in the future” than the former president.

The former president wrote on his site, Truth Social, that “Hopefully, tomorrow will turn out to be one of the most important days in the history of our Country!”

He is expected to make the announcement at 9pm EST today at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, looking to move attention on from disappointing midterm defeats that have been seen by many as signs his grip on the Republican Party is waning.

Republican activists believe the former president’s support has fallen as a result of his continued pushing of election conspiracy theories, the investigations into his businesses and political actions.

His ally, Kerry Laske, lost a closely fought race with Democrat Katie Hobbs in one of the most important contests in the US midterms given Arizona’s integral role in the 2024 presidential election as a battleground state. Ms Laske has questioned the authenticity of the vote counting, but also opted to express her trust in the U.S democracy.

Trump’s almost certain plan to participate in the elections would set up an intense battle fight with rightwing Florida governor Ron DeSantis for the Republican nomination.

Expectation of Trump’s plans to run comes as the twice-impeached president failed to appear for an appointment to give testimony before the House congressional committee investigating the January 6 attack on the Capitol.

Trump’s inner circle have reportedly been dissuading him from making the announcement because of the Georgia run-off, but the former president is not one to hold a secret for too long.

Some critics believe Mr. Trump may also want to use the announcement to circumvent a possible Justice Department indictment by presenting the move by Attorney General Merrick Garland to be political motivated, an allegation that is not new coming from the conspiracy laden former U.S Commander in Chief.

Trump’s character flaws have always been his main downside. A narcissistic and volatile man with infantile traits makes him one of the most immature leaders the U.S has ever had, but a big fan base still accompanies his name.

A world leader who reduced himself to that of a thug, so much that he not only disputed the validity of the U.S 202o elections, he encouraged an army of thugs to march on the Capitol on Jan. 6 in the most notorious insurrection America has ever witnessed. After practically trying to bully his then devoted Vice President, Mike Pence, to stop the Electoral College vote count, he disparaged his name by telling his supporters that Mike Pence did not have the courage to the right thing and indicated that Americans won’t have a country anymore if something was not done to ‘stop the steal’.

After the deadly insurrection, he told the perpetrators that he loved them, adding that they were ”very special”. His conduct that year left an indelible scar on his legacy.

Should Trump announce his presidential run, as expected, there will be more drama on how far he would go, whether Americans will support him, and the impact of the ongoing serious investigations about his alleged ill practises.

The success of the Democrats in the midterm elections has already caused panic and resentment among Republicans, but they are still favourites to win the lower chamber of Congress. Democrats are believed to have held two Senate seats in Arizona and Nevada, retaining control of the upper chamber.

Trump still carries a lot of influence among Republicans, but fielding him as their presidential candidate, could again spark the biggest voting turn out in America for the 2024 elections to ensure his failure, that is, if the mounting investigations he faces do not ruin his ambitions before then.
