Daily Mail’s Admirable Christmas Campaign For Care Home Residents To Have Good Xmas

By Brandon Anderton-

The Daily Mail’s “Christmas campaign” for ministers to allow care home residents to reunite with their loved ones leads today’s papers in the Uk when it comes to quality of topic.

The thought that care home residents may be separated from their families during the Christmas period is worrying because of the psychological damage this can cause. In saying that, their safety remains of the highest importance. The consideration for the mental well being ranks high as a leading topic for the day.

The current lockdown in the Uk is due to end on December 2nd, but fears linger among the public that the lockdown could be extended if the R rare doesn’t drop below 1. Even if it does, care home residents in the worst affected part of the Uk are expected to return to tier 3 during the Christmas period.

With research revealing loneliness to be a killer in many cases of prolonged solitude, calls for caution,  especially in care homes where many patients suffer with other serious illness. The Daily Mail’s recognition of  the importance of physical and mental safety of care home residents as a top consideration, marks it

Downing Street Fall Out

The fall out at 10 Downing Street leads many of Thursday’s papers after senior adviser Lee Cain said he was leaving as director of communications. There is a high level of curiosity about the details of the entire dispute.

Home Secretary, Priti Patel’s told the Daily Express that The UK will have power over its own destiny after laws ending free movement begin in December, highlights the freedom the Uk yearns to attain when Brexit is completed.

Current disputes over trade deals makes this no easy task, and concerns that Biden’s election success could jeopardise the smoothness of a Brexit transition, makes the whole Brexit process more complicated than appears.

A lot of thinking and strategic planning will be necessary on the part of Downing Street, for a smooth political relationship with the incoming U.S administration. There may need to be compromises, or a rationally effective way of explaining various political decisions causing the tension about the terms of Brexit.

Biden’s reference to his Irish roots when questioned by a reporter already sets the stage for some of the challenges that lie ahead, when two parties with vastly different ideologies are unified by shared  historical values. The idea that the Good Friday agreement may be ignored, to the anger of those impacted by the act of undermining the historical truce, will be a sticky point in this new relationship.

Johnson’s team may well have an answer to the obvious hurdle in the forging the perfect bond

End Of Vote Leave

The Times article that the departure of Mr Cain would signal the “end of Vote Leave faction” in Downing Street after other advisers opposed proposals to make him chief of staff is also topical for the day. There is no evidence to prove that it will necessarily affect Brexit.

The Daily Telegraph’s article about a “power battle”, reporting Boris Johnson’s fiancee was among those lobbying against Mr Cain’s promotion will also be a great talking point today. Many analysts will say the prime minister’s wife should not involve herself in political affairs, but it depends what objections she has. A partner’s objection to her husband’s choices cannot always be ignored.

The Independent story of the UK becoming the first country in Europe to surpass 50,000 deaths from Covid-19 is the most striking of the recent news. It   misses out the fact the stats still lacks the full data of the numbers that make up that statistics and therefore may not be reliable.
