A documentary on Britney Spears’ conservatorship is airing tonight as a ‘pop horror story’ .
The documentary explores the pop icon’s rise to fame, her mental state, and the drama that arose from initially having her father as her conservator- the overseer of her financial affairs.
It supposedly a true crime documentary, which includes questionable mental health as a contributory factor, and also a missing person’s case. Spears whose talent was nurtured from childhood would eventually face life changing challenges that would test her resolve.
The announcement from Red Arrow Studios, parent company of co-producers Left/Right, said it would feature interviews with people close to Spears and lawyers involved in her conservatorship, who “now reassess her career as she battles her father in court over who should control her life”
Directed by Samantha Stark, The documentary traces a pattern for the singer, one in which aspects of her style and bearing were overinterpreted and others were discarded as not suiting the story of a rapaciously sexual ditz.
Britney’s father, Jamie Spears, became the singer’s conservator in light of her public breakdown in 2008 , which led to her being hospitalised for her mental health. He controlled the majority of her financial and career affairs ever since, but she eventually asked a judge to remove his authority to oversee her financial affairs.
She transferred the authority her manager Jodi Montgomery to temporarily take over the role.
