British Boxing Board Refuse To sanction Heavyweight Prospect Dubois Fight With Browne

By Tim Parsons-

The British Boxing Board of Control has cancelled the scheduled  heavyweight fight between Daniel Dubois(pictured) and Lucas Browne.

The fight which was meant to be a first defence of the  fringe version of the WBA heavyweight belt  Dubois won by knocking out Trevor Bryan in his last fight was due to take place in November, but 43 year old Browne announced on social media that the BBB of C will not sanction the bout because he is “too old.”

Browne beat rising contenders Faiga Opelu, 28, and Junior Fa, 32, in his last two fights.

Two of his three losses came in Britain, against Dillian Whyte, 34, and Dave Allen, 30.

Browne slammed the decision to not let him challenge for the same belt he formerly held.

“If you don’t have the money and politics to back it up, you get f*****over and that’s been my entire career, unfortunately.

“My entire career I have been f***** over by everyone in boxing.

“Every country, no natter what it is, there’s always been something and there always will be something.”

Tyson Fury has come to Browne’s defence, stating how “Big Daddy” is “only a pup at age 43 compared to veterans Luis Ortiz and Bernard Hopkins.”

“Let the man fight,” Fury said of Browne via social media. “Luis Ortiz is 55 and Bernard Hopkins was 50. 43 is only a pup.”

Browne also took to social media:

“So here I am, finally getting great news about possibly fighting,” Browne said in a video he posted. “I’ve agreed. Daniel wants the fight. Fighting for a WBA title again. Finally getting a chance to fight against for the WBA “regular” title. All I hear now is that the British Boxing Board of Control won’t sanction the fight because I’m too old. So regardless of the fact that I started boxing at 32, was a champ at 36 with no amateur experience, have come off two great knockout wins. Junior Fa, knocked out in one round. I’m currently holding an IBF and a WBA regional title and a top 15 world ranking with the WBA, but apparently I’m too old. ‘Oh no, he’s 43, he’s too old.’ How sad is that? It’s not like I’ve been beat round the head my whole career, I’ve got three losses in total. How does this work? The guy from Australia gets f****d over again. That’s been my entire career unfortunately.”

Dubois who has 17  knock out wins from 19 fights and just one defeat, is a heavyweight fighter with knockout power.

His only defeat came  in 2020 against  unbeaten Joe Joyce in a close fight he was winning on points until he was forced to retire on his stool due to a damaged eye socket.

He would have been favourite to win the fight, but victory would not have done much to enhance his rating in the division.

A planned fight with Dillian Whyte failed to materialise  allegedly because not enough money was offered to Whyte ,who lost to Tyson Fury last April. Whyte earned £7m for the heavyweight title fight and would not be able to justify earning anywhere close to such amount against Dubois who was seeking to add the Brixton man’s scalp to his resume.

Dubois will in the meantime have to find another opponent to keep him busy before the end of the year.
