BREAKING NEWS APP FEATURE INTRODUCED TO MOBILES

An added element to an existing Breaking News app that lets users post their own news “tips” to the app’s feed, alerting nearby users to severe weather, power outages, fires and other events that may affect their day is rolling out today.

The new breaking news feature is instrumental in helping people track events around them. With the prospect of users posting a series of events occurring in an an area, other users are able to tell what is happening in their locality or even City without any need to wait for official news.

The new feature on the Breaking news app- a unit of http://nbcnews.com which was developed in Seattle is poised to spread and further the existing functions of app, effectively competing with social media functions . Our world has changed tremendously since the introduction of social media that include twitter, Facebook.

A feature called “proximity alerts” that uses location data to send push notifications to users following news stories  happening in their vicinity was first introduced in 2014. The feature, which is also in the works for the service’s Android app, is triggered in the event of “major events with the potential impact of affecting individuals in an area.
