Armed Police Chase Masked Men After Reports Of Gun Shots

By Ashley Young-

Armed police and  a helicopter chased four masks men in  Chappletown Leeds, around 12.35am this morning, after reports they had entered a property and fired shots.

Cops raced to the scene  in Newton road after a tip off that gun men had invaded a property  found damage to an internal door  indicating that shots had been fired. Police then chased a suspect vehicle across town with a helicopter and further units on the ground. Two men aged 20 and 22 were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and firearms offences.

Police  sealed off a street in Gipton as part of an ongoing police investigation. A statement from West Yorkshire Police read:

The full police statement read: “At 12.35am today (12/11) police received reports of an incident at an address in Newton Road, Chapeltown, where three masked suspects had entered the property.

“Officers attended and found damage to an internal door believed to be consistent with a firearm discharge. No-one was injured in the incident.

“A suspect vehicle was identified nearby and its movements tracked by the NPAS helicopter in liaison with units on the ground. Chappletown is known for gang turf wars and was once likened to a mafia controlled U.S city. Only last year, two members of a group known as the ‘flock gang’ were executed in public.

In 2017, three men were jailed for life for the  murder of 19 year old Raheem Wilks, who was shot and killed in a cold-blooded murder outside a barbers shop in Harehills 18 months earlier

During the murder trial over the death of Christopher Lewis the district north of Leeds city was likened to the mafia-controlled US city of the Great Depression era. The trial heard of running street battles in which young men attacked each other in public with fearsome weapons.
