Andrea Leadsome’s Political suicide from  Pm Race

By Ben Kerrigan

Andrea Leadsome’s political suicide forced her out if the leadership race. If we are totally honest, Theresa May was always a better option. May has the better experience and the stronger support.

However, Leadsome’s withdrawal inevitably had at the heart of its element of dejection emanating from the backlash over her unpopular comments about motherhood, intended to strengthen her candidacy for no 10.

Andrea Leadsome was  as bad as stupid to say to a newspaper that Theresa May’s childless state could count against her as a leader

Well, what those comments did was to ensure that Leadsome was unfit for leadership.

That false start was so suicidal! She carelessly overlooked the fact that her only opponent in the race, Theresa May, has no children, and decided to gain an unfair and thoughtless advantage there.

RESIGNATION

Mp’s were lining up to threaten resignation, with the numbers serious about leaving the party if Leadsome became prime minister,  well exceeding a dozen. business minister, Anna Sombre, was absolutely right in concluding that Leadsome’s remarks meant she was not “PM material”.

VILE

The former minister, Sir Alan Duncan, said her comments were ” vile”, whilst fellow Brexit campaigner of Mrs Leadsom nailed it in her prediction of similar turmoil to that in the Labour party in the event of she gets the post for no.10.

REALITY CHECK

Leadsome undoubtedly gave herself a reality check and leaped in time to foresee a thorough defeat if she proceeded with her bid for a post that requires much better sense if judgement than hers.

CRITICISM

She has been thoroughly criticised by both press and public, rightfully so too. A politician who could not foresee the potential consequences of her words, cannot wear the shoes of a prime minister.

GULF IN CLASS

Although the there probably is a gulf in class between May and Leadsome, as pointed out by Scottish Tory leader, Ruth Davidson, she may just have pulled off an unlikely upset in the final lap if voting, without her suicidal comments.

After all, as a Brexit campaigner, she could have hoped to push the argument among Mp’s that a Brexit campaigner during the referendum is best  for the job.  We never know what may have happened, but political suicide chucked her out quicker than time.
