20 Year Old Arizona Woman Dies Hours After Flu Diagnosis

By James Simons-

A 20-year-old Phoenix mother died within hours of being diagnosed with the flu on Monday, died one day later. Alani Murrieta

Murrieta checked into hospital at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, and by 3:25 was dead. Death caused by flu is quite rare, especially when the flu is not considered to be very serious. Murrieta leaves behind two young babies- a two year old and a six month old baby.

Alani Murrieta, was very healthy, according to her family . She hardly ever got sick, except for maybe the common cold every now and then, her family told reporters. Young Murrieta went home early from work on Sunday after feeling unwell. She was taken to hospital and given medication after being diagnosed with the flu.

Her situation deteriorated and on Tuesday morning around 7:00 a.m, her mother took her to the hospital because she was having difficulty breathing.

“Her oxygen levels were low. They took an x-ray around 9 that morning, and they told her she had pneumonia, and it kind of just went down hill after that,” Gonzales said

‘They were trying to resuscitate her, and they tried for several minutes and they told my sister there was nothing else they could do, that she was gone,” Gonzales said.

Gonzales says doctors told them Murrieta had the flu that turned into pneumonia. She tells us Murrieta had no pre-existing condition.

“Never in a million years would we have thought that we would have lost her that day like this,” Gonzales told reporters. Murrieta was a bubbly young woman who loved her two children and was dedicated to them like most responsible mothers are. Her sudden death has deeply saddened her family who are really struggling to come to terms with her death.
